How to Run AI Locally on an Android Phone
A practical introduction to choosing a local model, preparing storage, and using on-device AI on Android.
What running AI locally means
Local AI runs a compatible model on the device instead of sending each prompt to a PocketBrain cloud chat service. A model must be installed first, and the device's available memory, storage, and native runtime affect what is practical.
Prepare your phone
Use a compatible native build and leave enough storage for the model and your working files. Downloading a model needs a network connection; core compatible workflows can continue without one after setup.
Choose deliberately
Smaller models generally require fewer device resources, while larger models can need more available hardware. Choose based on your work and the resources available on your phone rather than an assumed benchmark.
PocketBrain-specific notes
PocketBrain lets you browse compatible models and manage downloads locally. See the local models page for the product workflow.
